Today’s college basketball slate features some really entertaining games. There is a huge matchup in both the Atlantic 10 and Mountain West conferences as well as some interesting power five conference games. Please note that we use our own rankings for these posts now, which can be found here
National Game of the Day: George Washington (16-4, 6-1 Atlantic 10) @ #17 Virginia Commonwealth (16-3, 6-0 Atlantic 10)
This is going to be an incredible game featuring two intense defensive teams that are vying for high seeds in the NCAA tournament. VCU has put together an impressive resume to get a high seed in March Madness and this would be another good win. George Washington is a great defensive team that is led by junior forward Patricio Garino, who is averaging 13.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Nobody on GW can really shoot to well from three but they win the game in the paint and on defense. VCU is led by two impressive guards, Treveon Graham and Melvin Johnson. Graham, a senior guard, is averaging 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while playing impressive defense. Melvin Johnson is a sophomore shooting guard who is a bit of a microwave and is averaging 13.4 points per game. This game will be low scoring and I see GW grinding out a huge upset win, 65 to 62.

#2 Game of the Day: #21 West Virginia (16-3, 4-2 Big 12) @ Kansas State (12-8, 5-2 Big 12)
Kansas State started off the season very slow but they have really started to come on and build their resume since Big 12 play started. They went wire to wire with Iowa State and have also beaten Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma so far. They need to keep racking up impressive wins to sneak into the tournament. They are a team that wins on defense but there scoring comes from sophomore shooting guard Marcus Foster. Foster is a lights out shooter averaging 13.7 points per game. West Virginia features an explosive offense that is for the most part very balanced. Senior guard Juwan Staten is averaging 15.2 points, 3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game and he is the leader of the team. This is going to be a fun game and I say Kansas State continues to move on up, pulling the small upset, 67 to 64.
#3 Game of the Day: Xavier (13-7, 4-4 Big East) @ #20 Georgetown (14-5, 6-2 Big East)
Georgetown is another team that started off the year slowly but have really picked it up during conference play. The team is experienced and balanced but has two standout players, D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Joshua Smith. Smith-Rivera is a junior guard who has improved dramatically this year, averaging 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He plays great defense and has hit some big shots as well. Josh Smith is a massive center who averages 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while providing an intimidating presence. Xavier is an elite offensive team averaging 77.8 points per game. However, the remarkable thing about them is their balance. They have six guys averaging between 8.8 and 12.9 points per game. There best player is center Matt Stainbrook, who averages 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Myles Davis and Trevon Bluiett are the starting backcourt and they are both guys who can heat up in a minutes notice. If they get going, Xavier upsets Georgetown. However, I think Georgetown locks them down defensively and wins the game 71 to 59.
