Josh’s Betting Picks – February 18

Aaaaaaand we’re back after a very long break with more college basketball picks for this evening.  After six picks, we’re posting a nice 3-2-1.  Let’s see if we can improve on that tonight. Follow us after the jump to see our basketball picks of the day.

Virginia Tech +12 @ Miami (FL)

The Hokies may be posting a pitiful 2-10 SU conference record, but they are a strong 8-4 ATS.  This is due to a very competitive conference play spirit.  Upsetting Pitt and GT at home and covering against Louisville, UNC, WF, and Cuse on the road, the Hokies look very good as an undervalued team.  They have only lost by 3 or less points at Wake Forest, Syracuse and at home to Virginia.

The Miami Hurricanes are 16-9 this season, but are just 2-4 SU & 1-5 ATS L6.  That includes a home loss to Georgia Tech by 20 and a home loss to Louisville by 8.

Miami also comes off of very little rest, having played into double OT @ Boston College.  Virginia Tech has three days of rest.

East Carolina +11 @ Tulsa

East Carolina is 6-0-1 ATS L7 games and recently suffered a 2 point loss to Tulsa as 9.5 point home dogs.

Tulsa suffered back to back defeats to SMU by 11 at home and @ Connecticut by 25.

The recent result this year leads me to believe that ECU will bring a competitive drive to a rematch of what was a very close game.

Northern Iowa @ Loyola-Chicago +8.5

I’m not going to pretend that Northern Iowa isn’t good.  But the important information in this situation is how good.  With a #11 national ranking, the bookmakers give plenty of merit to Northern Iowa.  Perhaps more than is due.  They barely covered their 10.5 point spread against a weak Missouri State team and now they have to face an underrated Loyola-Chicago, which is playing some very good basketball recently.

The Ramblers are 3-4 SU L4 and 5-1 ATS L6.  Loyola-Chicago also is looking to seek revenge as they lost earlier this season to Northern Iowa by 9 points as 11 point dogs.  Now they have home court advantage and the spread has only lowered to 8.5.

Take Loyola-Chicago.

Good luck,
Josh Mercado
